Persimmon

It originates in Japan and China. Its colour ranges from orange and dark red, depending on its carotenoids content. Its size is between 2 and 8.5 centimetres. Its pulp is orangey, sweet with a slightly rough taste.

Properties

It is a fruit rich in vitamins and minerals, in water and soluble fibre. In practical terms, depending on the state of maturity, it may have astringent properties such as constraining. It contains Vitamin C and provitamin A that transform when needed into Vitamin A. Between them both it offers an antioxidant effect, which reduces the risk of suffering cardiovascular diseases, degenerative diseases and cancer. It is also good for people with high cholesterol level.

Season

It is at its best between October and December, and is also suitable for consumption on September and January.
